Embodiment and Meditation

What is it and why?

Being embodied is essentially a commitment to emergent existing, aka present moment awareness, where we orient ourselves to witnessing what is happening in our body, in our emotional experience, and in our minds, allowing that stream of intelligence to orient us toward what is needed for our psyche and the body in each passing moment.

Maybe that sounds like alot of work. It certainly sounds strange.

How will anything get done?

What is "happening" in this awakened state is that we are observing ourselves in our lives and inviting in an awareness that what is happening alongside your experience.

This presence, or witness consciousness.

It is a heightened expirience of life where we can choose to attend to what is needed as well as to pause, ponder, and consider the possiblity of when and why to attend to something.

We use the body as an anchor. This is the meaning of the word embodied. Inviting an orientation to feel what is going on within us, mind, heart, and body and attune to the effects of our experiences on our system.

Integrating and unifying the imput of our body, mind and heart creates coherence.

Coherence allows the experience of flow, peace, and love.

Connecting to your inner world is fundamental for the consistant regulation of your nervous system and your overall wellbeing.  We learn the art known as meditation not just as an experience of sitting still but also an exploration that includes witnessing ourselves from the inside out and asking the right questions to clarify what is motivating our actions.

This is a powerful solution to managing the pace of the world as it is today.  We need a power cord to charge ourselves in this deeply technological 24 hour world.

The historical pace of life included externally imposed quiet time, periods of reflection and stillness inherent in a less modern culture. Perhaps we didn’t consciously realize that we were mentally resting and therefore processing, it happens naturally when there is stillness and quiet, which means we dont inherently recall that our current mental health crisis connects to this lack of quiet space to feel and sense into.

I love our modern times and know that it is a valuable experience of our interconnectedness and sharing of abundant information and opportunity.

AND... Your attention is a commodity that is also fatiguable. Just like your body, your mind needs rest and release of stimulation.

Embodied meditation is a powerful solution for this reset and recharge.  Self imposed pausing to reflect, listen and process your life. This type of meditation is not the same as an escaping, dissassociating, or by-passing what you are feeling by listening to relaxing music or the entrainment of brain waves to certain states of being. Those techniques are healing in a different way.

Embodied meditation is the art of processing your inner world, looking at what you are carrying in your body, heart, and mind by feeling yourself and your emotional world.

We have to be able to feel, starting with what is going on sensationally in our bodies and moving gently into what emotions, including numbness and not feeling, are living within our heart space.

The seat of the soul and inspiration lye in the heart.

This is a challenging adaptation to begin because your system will naturally revisit memories that have not yet been disgested. This works best when someone is holding the space for you, helping to contain support when it is difficult or confusing and helping you track your own initate wisdom. Like an anchor or a rudder on a boat, having another coherent nervous system available to you will ground you and help you to feel safe in your explorations.

Once embodied presence is embedded in your experience, like any habit,  your ability to access and recharge will be a normal part of your routine that you swear you could not live without.
